Facilities on Campus

We are dedicated to providing an environment where students can grow and excel. Our facilities include a well-equipped science lab, multiple computer labs, a home economics room, and a specialized welding/NDT room for hands-on vocational training.

We also offer a cafeteria serving nutritious meals, a sports facility for physical education, an agriculture section for practical agricultural studies, a church for spiritual development, and a multipurpose shed for various school activities and events.

These facilities are designed to support a well-rounded education, helping our students to thrive academically, physically, and spiritually.

PTA Organization

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) supports our students, teachers, and school initiatives. We believe in fostering a collaborative environment where parents and educators work together to enhance the educational experience for all students. Your involvement and support are crucial to our success, and we encourage you to join us in making a positive impact on our school community.

School Feeding Program

We are proud to support our students through our comprehensive School Feeding Program. Established in 2001 and expanded in 2013, this program provides daily nutritious lunches to about ninety students, ensuring they have the energy and focus needed for their studies. The program is funded by the school and generous donations from the community. Our commitment is to the well-being and success of every student, and the School Feeding Program is a vital part of that mission.

Academic Standards

we are committed to maintaining high academic standards that ensure our students receive a quality education. Our rigorous curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire students, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning. With dedicated teachers, comprehensive support services, and a focus on continuous improvement, we strive to prepare our students for success in higher education and beyond. Excellence in education is at the heart of everything we do.

Extracurricular Activities

we offer a variety of clubs to enrich our students’ educational experience and personal growth. Our Technology Club explores the latest in tech and coding, while Speech 101 helps students develop strong public speaking skills. The Music Club nurtures musical talent and creativity, and the Etiquette Club teaches essential social skills and manners. Additionally, our Newspaper Club provides a platform for budding journalists to report on school events and express their views. Join a club today and discover your passion!

Technology In the Classroom

we integrate technology into our classrooms to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Our teachers use LCD projectors to enhance presentations and lessons, making content more accessible and interactive. We utilize Google Classroom for efficient communication, assignment management, and collaboration. Tools like Canva and Canvas are also employed to support creative projects and online learning. These digital tools help us provide a comprehensive education that prepares students for the future, fostering digital literacy and innovative problem-solving skills.

E-Campus Learning App

We are excited about our locally developed E-Campus Learning App, a powerful tool designed to enhance the educational experience for our students. The app offers a range of features that support interactive and flexible learning, making it easier for students to access course materials, submit assignments, and communicate with teachers. With E-Campus, learning extends beyond the classroom, allowing students to stay engaged and connected from anywhere.

St. Ignatius High School, a Catholic secondary education institution, was founded by Mr. Daniel Silva (former Minister of Government) and Father Martin Murphy on 27th August, 2001. The school was established after the founders recognized the dire need for another secondary institution in the San Ignacio/Santa Elena area at that time.  Since its inception, the school has helped to widen access to quality education in our area by catering to an increasing number of families of lower socio-economic backgrounds.

St. Ignatius High School began with 95 students in 2001 and has since grown to host more than 420 students by 2014. When it opened, the school operated with a small staff of volunteer teachers from Ireland and Canada, along with a few Belizean support staff assisting the administration. As the student population increased, more and more trained Belizean teachers were hired and by 2012, the staff had grown to  more than 30  Belizean teachers and support staff.

With the early expansion of the school, a Board of Governors was established in 2001, chaired by Mr. Luis Gentle, who was succeeded by Father Leo Palma. Since 2001, the school had three principals, the first of whom was Ms. Marie Ann Scott.  Over the years of its existence, S.I.H.S has gained overwhelming support from the community and much appreciated contributions from local businesses, government, NGO’s, Catholic churches of Belize and Ireland, and many other organizations. With their input, the governing body of the institution managed to renovate structures, acquire resources such as computers and books to equip our labs, classrooms and library.

St. Ignatius High School continues to provide students with a structured and well balanced program of activities that enhances their academic abilities and improves their social, emotional and moral understanding. The school engages its students in critical, creative and relevant education that equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make wholesome life choices and ultimately positively contribute to the growth and development of our communities.

Today, we are proud to be one of the 12 prestigious Catholic secondary schools effectively and successfully serving students and families of our local communities for over 13 years. During our years of existence, S.I.H.S. has estimated an enrollment of more than 3,600 students. Presently, the school boasts a student population of 430 students and 27 teachers and support staff, including a full time counselor.
