Empowering through legal literacy

Street Law Belize

Street Law, a New Course to be Introduced in 6 Schools

Six high schools are preparing to participate in a programme known as street law as a new course to their curriculum. The addition is expected to start in January 2019 which means that those teachers who will be facilitating are receiving training on the local laws as well as the rights of individuals.  In this step, the participants will be taught techniques to develop the curriculum. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

School leaders learn the importance of “street law” | PT 1

Street Law”: it may be a good title for an action flick, but for school leaders, it meant that for the last two days, they learned why the law is important. More so, that knowledge will then be imparted on their school students. The facilitator was Doctor Christopher Malcolm, the Executive Director of Street Law Caribbean, who explained some of what participating school administrators learned.

In collaboration with Dr. Christopher Malcolm, Founder of Street Law Caribbean, our initiative extends beyond the traditional curriculum to incorporate essential legal literacy. This program empowers our students to understand and navigate the legal system, enhancing their ability to advocate for themselves and their communities. It’s about building a foundation of knowledge that transforms students into informed citizens, ready to lead and inspire.

Dr. Christopher Malcolm, Founder and Executive Director of Street Law Caribbean, passionately advocates for legal literacy and youth empowerment.

His partnership with St. Ignatius High School brings knowledge of rights, justice, and civic responsibility into our classrooms — equipping students to become informed, confident citizens and future leaders in their communities.
